Head Teacher Programs Designed to train Head Teachers in Jewish British schools to be pro-active agents of educational change, topics for ongoing professional development are chosen by the Lookstein Center in consultation with the Head Teachers. The first topic chosen was "Creating a Caring, Spiritual Environment in the Jewish Day School". Head Teachers attended workshops on expressions of Jewish spirituality, the developmental stages in the meaning of prayer for students of different ages, the developmental stages in the moral development of children, and Jewish spiritual identity. The follow-up seminar in Israel focused primarily on developing and enhancing spirituality. |
The seminars were funded by grants from the UJIA, London and the Department for Jewish Zionist Education of the Jewish Agency for Israel. Heads of Jewish Studies Programs This professional development program designed for Heads of Jewish Studies in Britain, includes seminars, workshops and ongoing follow-up via electronic communication, including e-mail and video conferencing. Over the course of three years, the participants take part in two seminars in Israel and two workshops in Britain. Past topics have included: leadership development, curriculum in Jewish Studies, curriculum integration, differential instruction and the use of technology in Jewish education. Each participant completes a Case Study with the guidance of a tutor appointed by the Lookstein Center. Successful participants, who meet the academic criteria set by the Lookstein Center curriculum advisory board, are awarded a Fellowship at a ceremony in the presence of the Chief Rabbi of the British Commonwealth. The program was developed by The Lookstein Center in partnership with the British Friends of Bar-Ilan University and the Agency for Jewish Education. |
