MATAN

Matan Mother-Daughter Bat Mitzvah Program

The aim of this unique program, Jewish Women through the Ages, is to see how we, as Jewish women, are part of a chain across the generations, and how the bat mitzvah can serve as a bridge connecting the young girl to Jewish continuity.

The program consists of ten sessions during which mothers and daughters together study sources about Jewish women throughout history. The women studied in the program were selected because they embody positive attributes and values from which the girls can learn. The lesson includes a discussion of the sources learned.

At each meeting the learning session is accompanied by an experiential activity related to the relevant figure or subject. Each activity creates a different atmosphere and invites different modes of self-expression such as movement, music, art, drama and guided imagery.

G-dcast

"The power of animation has never been more apparent than when discussing the holy building plans of this week's parsha. Thank you for your efforts to bring Torah to the world." - A congregational educator in Columbus, OH

G-dcast uses animated short films to bring the entire Torah to life: from the design of the mishkan to the intricacies of sacrifices to the most curious of the mitzvot. Today's Jewish students relate immediately to funny videos they watch online. Now G-dcast brings that same sensibility - humor, contemporary language, music and a diverse cast of narrators - to our classic texts. Jewish Art Education

Jewish Art Education is dedicated to helping Jews and non-Jews alike understand the important role that the visual arts have played and continue to play in Jewish civilization over the past 2,500 years. Through a series of short films streamed over the Internet, JAE will demonstrate how the visual arts have influenced -- and reflected -- the practice of Judaism. Moreover, JAE will also highlight the works of Jewish artists, from Biblical-era remnants to contemporary artworks, and explain how the art was influenced by Jewish civilization.

JAE's program is based on the research of Dr. Myrna Teck, who has spent her academic career on the study of the Jewish visual arts and has created a series of presentations that JAE plans to bring to a wider audience. In addition to the online video, JAE is producing slideshows and curricula that are suitable for K-12 and adult education programs at modest cost, as a further means of offering Jews a new path to understanding their religious civilization and the broader public to appreciate the true importance of the visual arts in Jewish civilization.
