Grades 1-2 Holidays

Blue Monday and Friends: Traditional Jewish Holidays Come Alive Through the Art of Story-Telling In this curricular unit, Geraldine Martin uses puppetry and children's literature to help young children learn about the Jewish holidays and appreciate and approach literature in a more critical manner. Includes lessons on Sukkot, Chanukah, Purim and Pesach. Completed as part of the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute.
What's on the Seder Plate? Designed for kindergarten, this lesson can also be used for first grade. Students learn to identify the items on the seder plate and discuss their symbolism. This webquest was designed by Linda Kagan as part of the J-WIT program sponsored in part by the Lookstein Center.
Hammer in the Jewish Holidays 1 Students review the Jewish holidays through an interactive, fun and exciting activity. Focusing on speed, accuracy, and comprehension, the student must locate the holiday on the blackboard, and “hammer” the Jewish festival.
