The Lookstein Center Principals’ Program is made possible thanks to generous support by the Avi Chai Foundation. Formerly known as the Principals’ Seminar, it now includes a year-long action research project. The educators have been working on their projects, which includes gathering data in real-time from their schools, and reflecting upon their findings with the feedback of mentors. They have now reconvened to discuss their progress and will be finishing up their projects then submitting them to Dr. Deborah Court, director of the Program, and their mentors, by the end of the school year.
In addition to discussing their individual projects, included in the program are sessions, presentations and workshops with experts in the field such as Prof. Richard Sagor from Lewis & Clark College, a renowned expert on action research, and Jennifer Miller and Shana Harris who will be facilitating a workshop on promoting schools from within. One of the participants, Cory Chargo of the Maimonides Academy of Western Connecticut, will be sharing his preliminary findings that he will also be submitting to an academic journal.
“The sessions push everyone’s thinking forward, including my own,” said Dr. Court. “Over the past few months the group has jelled and I am excited to say that we are now looking into ways of disseminating the knowledge that has come from the projects.” The Lookstein Center looks forward to welcoming the new, select group of 20 principals and their mentors in July 2006.
