The Principals’ Program is a professional development program designed for educational leaders of Jewish day schools in the Diaspora. Center for Jewish School Leadership programs focus on the specific needs of Jewish day school leaders and are committed to the integration of theoretical study and practical application, to heterogeneous collegial learning and networking, and to ongoing professional development.

 

These elements find expression in the structure, curriculum, and staffing of the Principals’ Program. The Principals’ Program includes:

 

  • A pre-seminar preparatory program
  • The 10-day summer seminar in Israel
  • Completion of a post-seminar individual action research project in consultation with a Lookstein
      Center
    mentor
  • Participation in an ongoing web-based discussion group
  • Mid-Winter follow-up seminar in North America

 

School heads, principals and assistant principals from North American day schools are eligible for this program.

 

The admission process includes the submission of this application, the required essay, and two letters of reference no later than March 31, 2008. Interviews will be conducted at the discretion of the Lookstein Center.

1. Describe a change that you have implemented or attempted to implement in your school, including: how you decided on the particular change, your plan of action, resistance that you may have encountered, the success of the change process, and things that you would have done differently in retrospect.

2. An important component of the Principals' Program is an individual action research project that each participant implements in his/her school. Consider your school and list three potential areas of improvement that you might wish to address in a follow-up project. (It might be worthwhile to consult with your colleagues and/or lay leadership in preparing this answer.)

References

Two letters of reference are required. Please have your referees forward the letters directly to the Center. At least one letter should be written by a colleague.
