Yeshivah of Flatbush Seeks English Language Arts Coordinator

The ELA Coordinator reports to the Lower School General Studies leadership and collaborates with the Head of School. Responsible for ensuring a YOF student that the Hebrew Language Department fulfills its role in the School’s published Strategic Plan. The Chair ensures that our students achieve the goals set forth in the published Portrait of a Graduate, aligning with the published mission statement of the school. He/she is responsible for ensuring the school hires and engages a staff that meets the profile of our published Teacher’s Characteristics of Professional Excellence. The Chair uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student and mentor the staff to achieve the department goals.
This position reports to the General Studies Principals and to the Head of School.
Management (80%)
Observe teachers and provide support and feedback towards teacher growth.
Work with teachers on:
Pacing curriculum
Organizing student reading groups
Classroom organization and displays
Displaying student work
Evaluating student work
Maintaining the leveled books classroom library
Design agendas and conduct grade level and vertical team meetings to discuss ELA related topics and issues.
Models lessons and excellent pedagogy of programs used in the classroom.
Monitor implementation and progress of recommendations and ideas that are adopted during the year.
Curriculum / Program
Design, create and implement comprehensive language arts (reading, writing, grammar, spelling) and social studies curricula based on current national and state education standards.
Provide direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive ELA curriculum, including modeling unit and lesson plans, crafting curriculum maps, and implementing pacing guides.
Explore, identify, and implement online and other resources (field trips, print, tech, and media sources) and programs for core teaching, support, and enrichment.
Align units, lessons, skills, and content taught among grade-level teachers.
Integrate the social studies curriculum and the reading curriculum with the writing program.
Ensure that the curriculum appropriately spirals from grade to grade.
Design meaningful summer work.
