College Guidance Counselor

The Idea School is a co-ed, modern Orthodox high school located at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly, NJ. The Idea School opened in 2017 with our first class of 13 freshmen. Now in our second year of operation and with a student body of 41 students across our freshman and sophomore classes, we are looking to grow our staff. We use a project-based learning model to get our students actively engaged in hands-on and deep textual learning; to spark their curiosity; to connect learning to the real world; and to develop themselves as Jewish people.
All of the educators we hire must:
Have a passion for nurturing growth and excitement for learning in each child

Understand a project- and problem-based learning (PBL) model
Be willing to collaborate with partner teachers and across disciplines in the creation of meaningful, engaging, and real-world learning experiences for students

We’re currently seeking a Full Time College Guidance Counselor:

M.A. and at least five years’ experience as a college guidance counselor
Strong relationships with area colleges
Experience in representing a PBL model to college admissions offices preferred

Job description:
Collaborate with the HOS to build a college guidance program
Coordinate necessary paperwork to help students satisfy college admissions requirements
Assess students’ academic progress to meet requirements of specific colleges and college programs
Communicate with college admissions and financial aid departments
Develop programs to teach students and parents about the college admissions process
Assist students with finding out about scholarships and other supportive programs
Assist students with finding out about summer internships and programs
Maintain working relationships with various colleges and universities
Understand financial aid requirements for students of varying needs
Supervise the standardized testing program in the school
Coordinate with the math and humanities teachers to create an ACT and SAT prep program in the school
