HS History Teacher, Long-Term Substitute

The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking a long-term substitute to fill the position of High School History Teacher. The full-time position will run from late October 2019 through late November or early December 2019.

The ideal candidate is a charismatic, knowledgeable history educator with a demonstrated ability to teach World History from the ancient period through modern. The ideal candidate has a successful record of creating strong relationships with students, is deeply knowledgeable about the subject area, is creative and collaborative and has demonstrated success at and enjoys working as an active member of a team.
Ideal candidates have experience in guiding students through the historical research process, in teaching critical analysis of primary text as a means of understanding history, and helping students in writing analytical essays for history.
The position will entail teaching five sections of high school history in alignment with the expectations of our History Department, along with assigned duties:
● World History I – Ancient through Medieval (1 section)
● World History I Advanced – Ancient through Medieval (1 section)
● World History II -Early Modern to End of Cold War (3 sections)
The candidate must possess a BA in History or a related field and have at least three years of experience teaching history at the high school level. An MA or PhD is preferred but not required. Experience in differentiated instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.
