The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of Middle School Math Long-Term Sub beginning in January 2022, with the possibility of an earlier start for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The ideal candidate has two or more years of highly successful formal teaching experience and demonstrated passion for and excellence in the teaching of mathematics and 21st century skills. The ideal candidate is creative and collaborative and has demonstrated success at and enjoys working as an active member of a team. Strong candidates have a successful record of creating strong relationships with students, are deeply knowledgeable about the subject area, and have demonstrated success in differentiated instructions and in integrating positive behavior management in neuro-diverse classrooms.

Responsibilities:

Teaching 5 sections of middle school math to students in grades 6-8:

2 sections of Math 6 to 6th grade students;

2 sections of Pre-Algebra to 7th grade students;

1 section of Algebra 8 Supported to 8th grade students.

Performing duties, including recess duty and assisting in math lab;

Participating in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;

Working collaboratively within the Upper School math department and middle school faculty.

The candidate must possess a BA or a BS in Math, Math education, or a related field; MA preferred but not required.

Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments.

Familiarity and experience with Singapore Math and Math in Focus preferred.

Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) required.

Experience in differentiated instruction, project based learning, Collaborative Problem Solving, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred. Fluency with technology required.
