The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of Middle School Science Teacher for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The ideal candidate will excel in teaching Middle School science and will have at least three years of experience in teaching middle school students in general science (earth science, space science, and environmental science), life science and physical science (including principles of physics and chemistry). The ideal candidate has strong classroom management skills, experience with inquiry based lab design and implementation, experience in project-based learning, is creative and collaborative both within and across departments, and has demonstrated success at and enjoys working as an active member of a team.


Teaching Environmental Science to students in grade 6; Life Science to students in grade 7; and/or Physical Science to students in grade 8;

Teaching daily morning check-in, academic flexblock, and/or a weekly advisory or other experiential education courses;

Participating in team meetings to discuss student progress;

Working collaboratively within the Upper School science department and middle school grade level teams.

A minimum of a BA or a BS in an appropriate subject area is required. An MS degree in the subject area and/or an MA in education is preferred.

Candidates should have at least three years of successful teaching experience in collaborative working environments.

Experience in student-centered differentiated instruction, collaborative problem solving, and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred.

Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) required.

Work Environment:

Faculty may be asked to perform their work responsibilities on campus and/or at home. In both settings, the teacher is required to maintain a professional environment.

While on campus, classes may be operating either in person or in an alternative setting. Teachers are expected to be present and accessible for the entire school day (contracted hours), regardless of the setting.
