Educational approaches to commemorating trauma

by | Sep 6, 2024 | Events and Opportunities for Educators

In this workshop for educators in Jewish settings, the Jewish Education Program of Facing History and Ourselves will explore how schools may choose to commemorate the events of October 7, 2023. What do we already know about memory and legacy that we can apply to the history unfolding in our own time? Why is memory important, and how is our memory of history shaped and influenced? How can we ensure that this memory and history is not forgotten?

Participants will examine how we confront and acknowledge mass atrocities by considering the stories of survivors and how we understand events of the past and their enduring legacies in our collective grief and healing.

This workshop is brought to you by the Facing History and Ourselves Echoes of the Holocaust series, a communal conversation focusing on the voices of contemporary scholars, writers, and artists as they reflect on the relationship between Holocaust history and the present.
