Virtual Bootcamp: Facilitating Student-Centered Text Study

Jewish text educators are tasked with the ongoing challenge of balancing skill development and content mastery on the one hand and creating meaningful Jewish learning experiences on the other. This delicate balance of seemingly opposing goals requires skill, proper planning, and support. In this series, we will explore a student-centered approach to Tanakh and Talmud/Rabbinics study where the skills and content learned will aid students in their personal construction of meaning. Bootcamp participants will learn and explore approaches to facilitating student-centered textual analysis, parshanut, and inquiry-based learning of text.

*Participants who sucessfully complete the bootcamp will receive a certificate from The Lookstein Center, Bar-Ilan University.

Zvi Grumet

Director of Education

Rabbi Dr. Grumet is a master Bible teacher and educator. His books include Genesis: From Creation to Covenant and Moses and the Path to Leadership, and he is Senior Editor of the Koren Lev Ladaat Humash. He is recognized internationally for expertise in teacher training and professional development, has 25+ years’ experience leading and coaching teachers in Jewish studies classrooms, and oversees the professional development programs of The Lookstein Center.

Naomi Schrager

Naomi Schrager

Director of Education, Lookstein Virtual Jewish Academy

Naomi Schrager is a veteran Jewish educator with more than two decades of experience teaching, creating curricula and informal education programming, and serving as a school administrator. Naomi completed Yeshiva University's Graduate Program in Advanced Talmudic Studies while pursuing her Master's degree at Azrieli Graduate School of Education. She currently serves as The Director of Education for Lookstein Virtual Jewish Academy, where she oversees The Lookstein Center’s online school for Jewish studies and has designed and facilitated dozens of professional development trainings to hundreds of educators around the world.
