ELAI – Educational Leadership Advancement Initiative

The Lookstein Center in partnership with UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Education Project, launched the ELAI initiative to train promising Jewish teachers and administrators in New York area schools to take on larger leadership roles in Jewish day schools and to prepare a new generation of Jewish day school leaders.

The ELAI program is designed around study, observation, and practice. Retreats offer examination of current educational literature, case study analysis and interaction with leading experts. A mentor-guided in-school enrichment project allows the participants to apply their expanded understanding and insights, as well as their enhanced leadership skills.

So far, 80 educators and administrators from 41 New York metropolitan schools of all denominations have participated in ELAI; approximately half of the participants have moved on to positions with greater leadership responsibilties.
