- After the Israelites sin, God wants to destroy them, and offers
Moshe to be the head of a new nation. Moshe refuses, and insists on
defending the Israelites. If you were the head of a company which was
in financial trouble, and you could save the company (and the jobs of a
dozen employees) by firing yourself, would you?
- One of key arguments that Moshe's uses to save the Israelites was that
destroying them would create a Hillul Hasehm - a desecration of God's
name. Apparently as a result of Moshe's argument, God relents. What other
kinds of behaviors create a Hillul Hashem? Does Hillul Hashem only apply
to those things which are public?
