Lack of Unity: Largest Threat to Israel

I thought Lookjed members would be interested in the following one page article from the Fall 2016, AMIT Magazine, by Andrew Goldsmith, Executive Director. The Ramatkal, supreme commander and chief of staff of Israel Defense Forces (IDF), asked for a meeting with senior AMIT staff. At that meeting the ramatkal divulged that the largest threat facing Israel are the rifts among the various groups comprising Israeli society, which will only grow deeper in coming years. The ramatkal asked that the AMIT network, which, in its network of religious schools is responsible for 33,000 students in about 30 cities, requested that the AMIT network helped address this strategic threat by forming a plan to strengthen components of unity while still celebrating our familial heritage and diverse backgrounds. The article also cited similar concerns from President Rivlin.

In light of the frequent discussions on Lookjed about exposure of students to diversity and promotion of unity I thought this would be of interest and might generate a thread. For those interested, the AMIT magazine is available online at www.Amitchildren.org: Click on “News and Media” at the top menu and select “AMIT Magazine” from the resulting submenu.
