Query: I am looking for information on the song “Tzion, tzion, tzion”. The poem by Rabbi Yehudah HaLevi was put to music by Nurit Hirsch and recorded by several different singers.
Here’s one by Shoshana Damari: [www.youtube.com].

But I’m trying to find out who composed and sung the snappier version – a tune incompatible with the poem’s meaning. Curiously, the only YouTube recordings of the song are by an individual named Jonathan Settel, who is a “Messianic Recording Artist.”
Here’s a link to the Mr. Settel singing the tune in question: [www.youtube.com].

Since this is a song we sang as kids in the ‘70s, I naturally assumed that Shlomo Carlebach composed it, but I can’t seem to verify that. Can anybody help me out?
