<HTML>Regarding "hillul shabbat" for non-Jews in cases of medical emergency:
I have a particular concern with, and experience in this area due to my
longstanding service in HATZOLOH. My personal attitude follows the
sentiment of Reb Hayyim Brisker who pointed out (although not with regard
to a non-Jew) that he was not being MEIKEIL in shemirat Shabbat but MAHMIR
in piku'ah nefesh. I see few areas with richer potential for KIDDUSH
HASHEM these days than utilizing Jewish human and other resources for the
sake of the preservation of human life. And if considering the converse
will help--just think back to Crown Heights.
In any event, a definitive study on the subject was written by Rabbi Adam
Mintz: "Medical Emergencies and the non-Jew; Halakhah adapts to New
Realities," published in Body and Soul in Judaism (The Orthodox Union,
1991).</HTML>
