<HTML>Ten Daat is planning a special issue on the topic of teacher training, and
are calling for serious submissions from a broad spectrum of the
educational community. Let us remember that there are a variety of teacher
training models, including formal schooling, mentoring programs, ongoing
guidance, inservice training and continuing education. Aside from other
contributions individuals may have to the topic, we are particularly
looking for submissions from the following groups with the following foci:

1-Those planning to teach or just beginning to teach should express what
they perceive their needs are in preparing for a career in Jewish
education and what they hope to gain from training programs. New teachers
can also focus on what was missing from their training and which aspects
of their training were most helpful, and why.

2-Veteran teachers should reflect on their own professional development,
what they perceive as the needs of new teachers they observe, and how they
perceive their roles in the acculturation and advancement of beginning
teachers.

3-School administrators can offer what they perceive to be the needs of
beginning teachers, whether those needs are being met (and by whom), and
which elements of the educational community should be responsible for
seeing to those needs.

4-Those involved in teacher training should offer what they perceive to be
the needs of beginning teachers, how those needs are addressed, and what
instruments are used to evaluate the success of their programs.
