Dear Lookjedi,

Joe Hirsch’s article rings international bells as well. We, in the UK, realised that it’s not JUST about the kids, but sadly, the parents, too. The new suite of siddurim we produced, from early years to around bar/bat mitzvah age, has addressed this challenge with copious explanations, illustrations (not just cute pictures, but helpful ones) and links to the United Synagogue’s ‘how to’ video clips called JOGs (Jewish Online Guides).
They seems to work throughout the English speaking world, as we are now on our third reprint in three years! We are currently working on a Big Book version of the early years siddur for use in the classroom or children’s services in shuls.

Yours,
Simon
