Eliana -
While I sympathize with your sentiments, I question whether it is your place to discuss current events in your Navi class. A teacher is hired to teach a given subject, and unless that subject includes current events, the teacher should focus on his or her material.
If the principal chooses to call an assembly or to recite Tehillim, that is the administrator's prerogative. But classroom teachers teach their subjects. Is it valuable for students to go from teacher to teacher and in each class have the same discussion?
As a Navi teacher I could imagine that questions of monotheism, war and the fight to eradicate pagan beliefs might be the topic of the day. There might be an angle engaging students in a discussion of whether murderous religious zealotry ever can be condoned. But you should be well prepared for a conversation like that.
Sincerely,
(Rabbi) Yitzchak Jacobs
