Hi Shalom,
Anthony Knopf asked about teaching evolution. When I spoke on the topic several years ago I came across these sources;
1) An article in Tradition by Dr. Baruch Sterman entitled (I think) Judaism and Darwinian Evolution - [
traditionarchive.org] - which argues that it is time that the religious community accept the fact (not 'theory') of evolution.
2) Rav Shimshon Rafael Hirsch discusses the topic in his collected writings (I'm not sure of the source). Rav Hirsch is hesitant to accept the theory but he offers a theological way of embracing it if it were to be proven true.
3) The Tiferet Yisrael (commentator of the Mishna) wrote an essay entitled 'Drush Ohr Hachaim'. It is located at the end of the Yachin Boaz Mishna Nezikin Vol 1. In the essay he discusses the paleontology of his day (mid 1800's) and reconciles it with the opening pesukim of Bereshit and several statements of Chazal.
Good luck.
