LAVE program using TV clips and movie clips to teach Torah

September 03, 2016 08:12PM
In response to Michael Langer's inquiry about TV and Movie clips to teach Tefillah and other Jewish values, some of the younger Jewish educators may be unaware that this very curriculum was developed as my doctorate. Over 225 clips are available (many longer than 10 minutes) with a full lesson plan for each including:

1) description of trigger video, 2) goals of the lesson, 3) detailed suggested questions and answers for the lesson by the teacher and 4) sources in English and Hebrew (in total, about 10-15 pages long). Each package is appropriate for grade 6 to adult, but some show and topics are more appropriate for high school students. The time for each program can be either one period (45 minutes) or two periods (90 minutes) for each unit.

This LAVE program is modular and can and has been used as 1) a weekly course in Hashkafa/Jewish Ethics 2) a Rosh Chodesh program 3) part of a retreat or Shabbaton 4) a voluntary Sunday or evening program or a one time program on a particular topics. The themes include:

Antisemitism
Challenges to the Jewish Community
The Ethics of Chesed and Tzedaka
Halachik Ethical Issues
Jewish Values and the Holocaust
The Values of the Land of Israel
Jewish Identity
Jewish Philosophical-Ethical Issues
The Values of Jewish learning and Teaching
Man to God Values
Jewish Ethics of Man to Man
Man to Self Values
Tefillah/Prayer Values

Please contact me offline (nachum@jewishdestiny.com) for details on how to use these and how to obtain them.
