Query: I am looking for information on the song “Tzion, tzion, tzionâ€. The poem by Rabbi Yehudah HaLevi was put to music by Nurit Hirsch and recorded by several different singers.
Here’s one by Shoshana Damari: [

But I’m trying to find out who composed and sung the snappier version – a tune incompatible with the poem’s meaning. Curiously, the only YouTube recordings of the song are by an individual named Jonathan Settel, who is a “Messianic Recording Artist.â€
Here’s a link to the Mr. Settel singing the tune in question: [

Since this is a song we sang as kids in the ‘70s, I naturally assumed that Shlomo Carlebach composed it, but I can’t seem to verify that. Can anybody help me out?
