I thought that Shalom's neighbor's comment did not do justice to the current discussion.

No one was questioning if women's learning was permissible or advisable. The discussion was about evaluating the current state of women's learning and if it is achieving its goals. Thoughtful essays from people in the field, such as Ezra Schwartz, are, I think, very worthwhile to consider and discuss.
