I appreciate Rabbi Sommer's thoughtful response. I am certainly not advocating that schools never try to expose its students to ideas that are more religious than what they get at home. However, what I've learned over my years in chinuch is how powerful the influence of the home is (and rightfully so), especially in the long term. As such, if the majority of our students end up more or less with their home values, we should not view it as a failure.
