I am doing some research in preparation for a shiur on the topic of "The Role and Function of Minor or Secondary Characters (D'muyot Mishniyot) in Tanach" The idea came to when I recently heard a shiur by Rav Yonatan Grossman in which he discussed the role of 'ha'naar nanitzav al ha'kotzrim' in Megillat Rut. Another example might be the "ish" that finds and directs Yosef as Yosef searches for his brothers.

Can anyone offer any other suggestions, sources, articles on this topic?
