<HTML>There *are* obvious parallels in our tradition. For instance, the nusach
of the tefillot of Shabbat, rendered a good millenium prior to Rosenzweig,
form a progression of these three elements [friday night: "tachlit ma'aseh
shamayaim va'aretz... vayechulu hashmayim"; shacharit: "matnat chelko...
ba'amdo lefaneicha al har sinai"; mincha: "menucha shleima... yakiru
va'neicha v'yedi'u"] Nevertheless, the way Rosenzweig arrives at his set,
starting from the basic elements and investigating their intersections, is
the key to his originality.
I should note that my teacher, Rabbi Shalom Carmy, first pointed out to me
the parallel between Rosenzweig's progression and the Shabbat davening,
during a class at Yeshiva University a number of years ago.
