Websites for Israeli political parties

As I've argued once or twice before, the upcoming elections in Israel
(May 17) offer an opportunity to teach students about the realities of
Israel today, its political system, and the choices (some would say
divisions) that are faced by Israelis. The internet offers the
opportunity to do at least some research into different parties on-line.
Try having your students play the role of spokesman, and present the
different parties' platforms. (They need not play the part of actual
politicians. We want to keep the discussion in the classroom civil.)
Shalom

Here are addresses for official websites of the competing parties.

In random order:

1. The site of the ruling Likud Party, under the leadership of Prime
Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who is seeking reelection to a second term.
The site is available in English and Hebrew.

2. Labor prime ministerial candidate Ehud Barak. Site is currently in
Hebrew only. English is under construction.

3. Center Party under the leadership of prime ministerial candidate
Yitzhak Mordehai. Multiple attempts were made but we were unable to access
the site. [www.mercaz.org.il]

4. The Haichud Haleumi (National Unity) coalition, headed by prime
ministerial candidate Dr. Binyamin Begin, is available in Hebrew and
English.

5. The Tzomet Party, under the leadership of Minister of Environmental
Affairs Raful Eitan is available in Hebrew, English, Russian and Amharic.

8. The Shinui Party, headed by Tommy Lapid, is available in both Hebrew
and English.

10. The Third Way Party, under the leadership of Minister of Internal
Security Avigdor Kahalani is available in Hebrew only.

11. The Yisrael B'Aliyah Party, under the leadership of Minister of
Industry and Trade Natan Sharansky is under construction according to
party
officials. We were unable to access the site reportedly under
construction.

12. Penina Rosenblum website is available in Hebrew only.

13. The Ale-Yarok (Green Leaf) Party website is available in Hebrew only.

14. The Yerukim (Green Party) website is available in Hebrew only.

It appears that other parties do not maintain websites. This is a shame
both because none of the religious parties have one, and because we miss
out on all of the odd parties that run in the election. Shalom</HTML>
