<HTML>Dear Shalom,
Although this question is rather specific, I believe that it has much
wider ramifications, and that there are people who have done work on it.
In my eleventh grade Gemara class we are learning the last Perek Of Yoma.
As a tangent to the discussion of eating on Yom Kippur (in Pikuach Nefesh situations) the Gemara discusses at length medical treatments that defy explanation, as far as I can tell. My first reaction is to skip the whole issue, although I would prefer to be able to present a coherent approach to my students.
What suggestions have you as far as source material? Does anyone have experience with presenting this to a class of American high school kids?
My thanks,
Yitz Jacobs</HTML>
