<HTML>Nina Butler's query on English literature lists has special relevance for
Advanced Placement English Literature courses, where familiarity with some
Christian and sexually explicit literature is just about necessary for
getting an 5. A few years ago, Suzanne Blaine (Chairman of the English
Department at Flatbush) and I ran a day-long conference on this subject
for AP English teachers in NY-NJ Yeshivot and Solomon Schechter schools.
This is a real issue that requires discussion among the AP teachers in the
Jewish schools and perhaps even involving Catholic educators, who have the
same problem with the sexually explicit material.
I would be interested in knowing how this is addressed in the AP English
courses in various schools.
