Dear Shalom,
There has been much discussion recently in the world of Jewish education about the efficacy of distance and online learning for Jewish day schools. It dawned on me that there has been little discussion about the experience of the public school sector in this area. I took it upon myself to do a brief survey of research and literature on the subject, and to see what might be gleaned to contribute to the discussion among Jewish educators. Although the use of distance and online learning has grown exponentially in the public schools in recent years, there is apparently relatively little research on the phenomenon. Nevertheless, I found that a look at the research can help Jewish educators make more informed decisions, and incorporate practices that will help to ensure the success of the distance and online learning programs that they adopt.
