Philosophical and theological challenges of sacrifices

I am preparing a unit on Korbanot (Vayikra and Tzav). I am looking for materials that address the philosophical and theological challenges that this topic will likely raise for high school students in a MO day school (ethical treatment of animals, worshipping G-d through killing His creations, active worship confined to a specific time and place as opposed to prayer, entitlement of specific segments of population (kohanim, men) etc....)
