It strikes me that plagiarism - a problem with which students should be familiar with from their academic work - becomes significant when talking about creative writing and publishing.
Examples of this include both general literature (e.g. Roots - [
en.wikipedia.org]) and Jewish fiction (e.g. Naomi Ragen's works - [
en.wikipedia.org]).
At the same time, there is a long history of "borrowing" Torah ideas and presenting them as one's own.
