Like many, I’ve been following with great interest this discussion. While I find the idea fascinating and appreciate Mr. Gross’ investment of his time and energies, I don’t understand why the free market should not or cannot respond. If the demand among families facing tuition crunches is as severe as Mr. Gross contends—and we know that it is in many respects—one would expect entrepreneurs of all sorts to respond to this demand, including groups of parents to take the initiative, most typically how new Jewish day schools gestate, i.e., from the bottom up. What am I missing?
