I am interested in acquiring materials for supplementing a unit on Ezra, Nechemiah and the Shivat Tzion period for a class of seniors. In particular, I am looking for firsthand accounts or secondary sources from the modern period that might parallel the experiences of those from the ancient Shivat Tzion period. An obvious source for comparison, for example, might be the Balfour Declaration, but I would also be interested in hearing the voices of Jews and Arabs alike at the time of its announcement and their reactions to it.
Similarly can anyone help my students hear the voices of people who gave expression to the reasons for wanting or not wanting to make aliyah, the hardships of travel to or life in the Yishuv, the opposition of the local population and the like.
