Rabbi Grumet -
Kudos to you on your efforts to determine the impact of day school education on its students.
The sense I have from perusing your paper is that you received no funding for undertaking this study. I have no way of knowing whether or not you applied for a research grant, but it appears to me that this is exactly the kind of research that Jewish funders should be supporting. Day schools received tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars annually from Jewish communal and personal payments. How is it that no serious research on the efficacy of this programming has been done in the past?
When Mark Zuckerberg donated $100 million to Newark schools, it came with a series of related research initiatives aimed at determining whether the changes that were implemented were successful (spoiler alert: they were not). Surely our day schools deserve no less.
Best of luck with turning your research into a conversation that spurs improved teaching and learning.
