<< 2) Has anyone made an effort to apply the lessons of Gardner's multiple
intelligences and can this be accomplished without sacrificing the
essential textuality of the tradition of Jewish learning?

Joshua Levisohn >>

Josh, Hillel Day School of Boca Raton is about to begin a three year
program called Ma'alot - the Wholistic Learning Program in which we are
going to be moving our entire school to focus on the Multiple
Intelligences. This year is year one of our program. In this year we are
focusing on educating our teachers, parents, and students about MI. Our
school has a strong gifted and talented program and we are moving from
asking the question of whether a child is gifted to "how is this child
gifted". In a larger sense, we feel that we are moving on to unproven
ground.

We have attracted the attention of Project Zero at Harvard and hopefully,
they will consult on the program with us. Of course, there is extensive
material available on MI with regard to General studies and virtually
nothing related to Torah studies. This means that we will have to spend
time creating and discovering. It is an awesome and exciting challenge. =

Our program kicks off in the end of October with a week of parental
lectures, teacher inservices, and programs in classes. If you have any
specific questions, please email me or come visit our school!
