<HTML>I would first like to apologize to subscribers with Yeshiva University
addresses who have received close to 100 copies of the last Announcement
digest. I appreciate your patience; computers do the darndest things.
About two weeks ago Rabbi Jeff Saks posted a query about programming in
Diaspora Jewish schools on the Yahrtzeit of Yitzchak Rabin. I would like
to repeat a call for discussion on this topic (tomorrow, November 4 is the
anniversary of the assassination according to the secular calendar, and
there are further commemorations taking place in Israel), as there was no
response whatsoever, either to the list or to Rabbi Saks off-list. This
tragic event is seen in Israel (within both the religious and secular
communities) as a crucial moment in modern Jewish history. It is certainly
of interest to know if there is any mention of this event in your schools,
and if not, why not?
Included in this issue are a number of responses to the Ivrit b'Ivrit
articles that were posted on the website.
Dr. Joel Wolowelsky's original article, as well as responses that appeared
in Ten Da'at when the article first appeared can be accessed at
[
www.lookstein.biu.ac.il]. If anyone
would like these articles sent to them as attachments, please let me know.
We welcome further discussion of this issue.
A number of other articles have been posted on the website during the past
week, including a number that were referred to in earlier Lookjed Digests
on the topic of Women and Talmud Torah. Our staff is working on the
developing website, and I believe that we are overcoming a lot of the
technical problems that existed in the first week that the site was up.
