<HTML>Yom HaShana for Yitzchak Rabin

One of the Lookjed subscribers who lives in Israel wrote to me,
attributing the lack of discussion about how schools deal with Yitzchak
Rabin's assassination to the fact that it is too wrenching (in many
different directions) for people to debate openly. He suggested that I
mention that for those interested, Virtual Jerusalem has articles, and
discussion of this topic at [www.vjholidays.com].

Maybe that is the issue. Deep down I suspect that there is no mention made
of his death in American schools because the sense of "oneness" with
Israel that existed during the first 30 years of the State has begun to
fade, particularly since the Oslo accords were signed. This point was made
by Rabbi Yitz Jacobs in his comment on Ivrit b'Ivrit in the last digest.

I would be interested to know whether educators in Hutz La'aretz feel that
the State of Israel is still front and center in their schools. Shalom</HTML>
