A number of months ago Rabbi David Eliach posted a letter advocating a
daily Torah Study program. We are pleased to announce the launch of TANACH
YOMI, Daily Torah Study with AMIT which has been under development at AMIT
since November 1998. The following is the press release which explains the
program. The 1st Study Guide volume has just been released.

New York, July 1 -- AMIT has announced the launch of TANACH YOMI, a daily
Torah study program that will be available around the world, to women and
men, and to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Recognizing the value of this program, Dr. Norman Lamm, president of
Yeshiva University in New York stated, "Jewish tradition considers the
daily study of Torah the highest of all duties incumbent upon all Jews. It
is therefore unquestionable that AMIT is on the right track in creating
the Tanach Yomi project" The program will be launched at the AMIT National
Convention on July 11, 1999, at the Nevele Resort Hotel, in the Catskill
mountains in Ellenville, New York.

Tanach Yomi will go beyond merely a calendar and "assignment for the day."
AMIT is preparing a book of daily study guides with summaries of each
learning portion and several analytical questions to consider and discuss.

Tanach Yomi will start with the book of Devarim - Deuteronomy - the
reading coincident with the Convention. Each day's study will be one
"aliyah," or one/seventh of the weekly Torah reading, and can be
accomplished at the learner's own time and pace - in as little as 20
minutes a day. Eventually, participants will complete the cycle of 24
books of Torah, Prophets, and Chronicles.

Participants will be encouraged to study at home or at work, alone or with
a partner, in Hebrew or in English. At periodic intervals, AMIT will
arrange, where possible, for a scholar or rabbi in the local communities
to offer a review and analysis session of what has been learned.

A nominal registration fee of $36.00 will cover the cost of materials for
the first year. A Torah learning hotline will be available at a later date.

AMIT, founded in 1925, cares for underprivileged children in Israel. AMIT
maintains 55 schools, youth villages and children's homes throughout
Israel, and is Israel's official network for religious, technological,
secondary education. Over 14,000 children are enrolled in AMIT schools.

Chaired by Elissa P. Chesir and Brenda Felman, this project represents a
new direction for AMIT, one that will meet the needs of people all over
the world.

For more information call AMIT's Torah Study Department at (212) 477-4720,
