Prof. Levine's post in this week's Lookjed is very disturbing. Do others feel that it is a correct reflection of the state of day school education today? If so, one must wonder, from the vantage point of some years, where did this deterioration set in.
Day schools used to be able to provide (at least they did for me and many others of my generation) a good grounding in Ivrit, in Chumash, in Mishna and in Talmud, along with a secular education sufficient for SATs and Ivy League admissions.
What has changed so radically? Perhaps if we knew the answer, we could fix the model.
