Dear Shalom,
In response to Malka Zeiger's comments about gender inequality and compensation for educators,:
In the United States, in addition to the disparity in pay common across too much of the Orthodox world, male religious educators have an additional benefit: Many rabbis take a parsonage exemption giving them significant tax advantages that female educators do not have. This only magnifies the earning differential between men and women. Ironically, rather than compensating women to rectify this imbalance, schools amplify it by paying men more for the same work.
