Can we assume that the teachers in our Day Schools and Yeshiva High Schools have a reasonable knowledge of Tanach? Can we make the same assumption about Shul Rabbis and other Rabbinic leaders in the Orthodox community? I think that these assumptions are more than reasonable.
Therefore, I have a question: What would happen if all of the teachers and all of the Rabbis would not only teach, but lead by example by being true Torah role models? What would happen if they all packed their bags and made Aliyah?
I'm not worried about what they would do in Israel. There is plenty to do here – in every walk of life.
Rather, my concern is what a fabulous message this would be to all the Ba'alay Batim! Please follow our example, they could say. The whole Tanach delivers one very concrete and very important message: There is only one place in the world a Jew can call home: Eretz Yisrael. There is only one place where a Jew should live: Eretz Yisrael.
Anywhere else is exile, Galut. Anywhere else is living far away from HaShem. Living anywhere else – even America – is tantamount to worshipping idols.
So how can a teacher of Torah or a Rabbi who is "Shomer Mitzvot" ignore the Mitzvah of living in Eretz Yisrael??
And if you all come – and I do mean all of you – then the Ba'alay Batim and their families will come, too. What a lesson that would be in Torah!
P.S. Rabbi Simon Dolgin made Aliyah in the 1970s after being a Rabbi in California for three decades. And many of his congregants followed him.
Nu! So what are you all waiting for??
