I would like to address Rabbi Chaim Ingram’s comment with regard to the statement: “There is nothing more beautiful in our modern society than the fact that gay individuals can build a nice Jewish home and family.†I do not see how this assertion crosses any “red lines.†There is nothing in the Torah that prohibits gay individuals from having a Jewish home or a Jewish family. One of the most devout and committed Jewish families I know is parented by two deeply Jewishly committed dads, and I know many other gay families that are observant and devotedly Jewish. The Torah and rabbinic prohibitions are specific to certain acts.
I would argue that Dr. Kanarek’s sentence and the article in which it appears most definitely “stems from a Jewish values system†– one which values and supports all Jews, created b’tzelem Elohim, and all Jewish children and Jewish families.
