The recent item from Zvi Grumet and response from Joel Wolowolsky give
every administrator and supervisor much food for thought. I think that
every teacher, no matter what the discipline being taught is, should have
a written job description of what his/her responsibilities are both in and
out of the classroom. I know of teachers who have been told that they
aren't meeting expectations, when those expectations were never clearly
spelled out. The most unhappy task facing an administrator is telling a
teacher or a student that they will not be getting an invitation to return
for the following year.
That decision should be made carefully and only with sufficient attempts
to improve the situation that ultimately made that decision necessary.
I want to thank the Lookstein Center and all the participants in these
"conversations" for very thought provoking and constructive issues being
raised.
