<HTML>There are a few excellent sources that I know of:
1) In Alon Kesher ( I don't remember which volume) there is an article by
Rav Aharon Lichtenstein S"hlita which discusses in general how you are
michalel shabbat to save any life (what are the factors at play)
2) In the book "Sheilot L gedolei yisrael" by Rav Shragai Sharazi (Mosad
Harav Kook), the first or second question deals with the subject. His
major contention is that what the Gemara is talking about is a chiuv to
save the non-Jew, and that there is no issur. If there was a an issur
dOraita then Rav Unterman could not have given his psak requiring Jews
today to save non-Jews because of "eiva"
3) See also material by Avi Sagie 1) His article in the book he edited
Authorithy and Autonomy (Samchut V'Autonomia) and material in his book Daat
and Musar.
I am sorry I can't give more detailed references as I dont have the books
by my side.
