I appreciate the discussion of my last Parshat HaShavua question. It has
both clarified certain issues and has made me realize the complexity of
dealing with them in the classroom. That said, perhaps, you, my colleagues
could be of further assistance. In both Parshat VaYishlach and Parshat
Vayeshev there are a number of stories that do not fit into my concept of
what is appropriate for children (rape, incest, prostitution). Is there an
age when these stories should be introduced? Until that age, should the
stories be skipped entirely (they do not seem integral to the flow of the
narrative, in any case)? Should they be taught as "Dinah got into
trouble"?
