Shalom U'vracha! I'm looking for sources on the following topic: Examples where English translations of the Tanach "get it wrong" and therefore meaning and interpretive possibilities are lost.
My curiosity about this was recently piqued when I read a piece by Rav Yonatan Grossman on the VBM (Literary Study of Biblical Narrative) in which he points out that the word 'teivah' is translated in parshat Noach as "ark" but as "basket" in parshat Shemot (where baby Moshe is placed in the Nile). Rav Grossman argues that this inconsistency in the English (which obviously does not exist in the Hebrew) causes the reader to miss possible comparisons between the two events.
Does anyone know of other similar examples?
