Re: When English Tanach translations "get it wrong"

My favorite mistranslation is in I Kings 19:9 where English translations usually translate "a cave" instead of the Hebrew's "the cave." The Hebrew text there apparently alludes to the "cleft of the rock" of Exodus 33:22. Both the previous verse and the next verses of I Kings 19 make it plain that the text is portraying Eliyahu as acting like Moshe (see also Malachi 3:22-23, in which Eliyahu follows Moshe).
