<HTML>Regarding substance abuse, I encourage everyone to look into the group
called:
Jewish Alcoholics, Chemically Dependent Persons and Significant Others
(JACS) [
www.jacsweb.org] a program of
Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services
850 7th Ave.
New York NY 10019
Tel: 212-397-4197
Email:
jacs@jacsweb.org
Note: This is a group for support of Jews who are (recovering) addicts or
their family and friends, analogous to Alcoholics Anonymous and other
12-step programs. While the perspective is clearly Jewish, it is not
oriented to prevention as such. However, they may be able to put you in
touch with appropriate resources. Also, although the offices are located
in New York, there are JACS groups that meet around the country, and even
in Israel.
I commend and encourage all who are attempting to deal with this important
problem, which has all too often NOT been considered a problem in the
Jewish community.
